French in the Central African Republic:
Abstract
Considering the linguistic situation in Bangui, we can hypothesise that the features characterising French spoken in Bangui have emerged from language contact. However, not all the features of French in Bangui can be understood as contact-induced. The relation between the speakers or the discourse type are factors that can explain some of the variation we observe in the conversation. It also contains linguistic features that are found in other peripheral varieties of French, namely in different African varieties.
